     Lakes Treks around Dharamsala

High Altitude Lakes in Himalayas are considered as Holy Places by the inhabitants. These lakes are visited by thousands of devotees of lord Shiva and his concert Parvati (The Goddess Kali). Pilgrimages to these lakes are undertaken by local people to fulfill there desired wishes. A holy deep into these lakes is held auspicious. Pilgrimage to these lakes is generally undertaken in the month of August and September.

  Trek to Kareri Lake: (3300 Metres)   Grade: Easy
 

Kareri Lake is at a low altitude and is a easier trek. It is frequented mostly by Gujjars and Gaddis from the nearby villages because of extensive pasturelands. Clusters of dense conifers and different kinds of perennial flowers are a rare treat offered by this place.

Day 4 Naghar lake  to Nag Dal. Distance: 16 Kms.
Day 5 Nag Dal to Triund. Distance: 8 Kms.
Day 6 Triund to Mc-leodganj. Distance: 14 Kms.

Lam Dal is the biggest and the largest lake in Dhauladhar range.

Day 1 Mcleodganj to Kareri Distance: 13 Kms.
Day 2 Kareri to Kareri Lake Distance: 13 Kms.
Day 3 Kareri Lake to Naghar cross over Minkiani Pass(4250 m) Distance: 6 Kms.
Day 4 Naghar to Lam Dal via Kali Kund Lake, Chandarkup Lake and back to Lam Dal Distance: 8 Kms.
Day 5 Lam Dal to Bagga Camping cross over Gag Pass(4350m) Distance: 6 Kms.
Day 6 Bagga to Ghera and then to McLeodganj (by bus) Distance: 8 Kms.

  Trek to Nag Dal (4150 Metres)   Grade: Difficult
 

Nag Dal known as a Cobra Lake  was explored by the King of Alwar(Rajasthan). When he visited the lake as per the advise of Priest to bring water from Holy Lake to have rains in his kingdom. The King did so and during this course had a scuffle with  Cobra King resulting which the water  spilled near Bhagsu. The King prayed to the Nag Devta to bless his Kingdom with rain as it suffered with acute drought conditions. The Nag Devta became benevolent to the King and blessed him with rain. This lake is now visited by hundreds of people for a holy dip and people worship Nag Devta on the occasion of Janmashtmi.

Day 1 Mcleodganj to Triund Distance: 9 Kms.
Day 2 Triund to Lahesh Cave (3300 m) Distance: 5 Kms.
Day 3 Lahesh Cave to Nag Dal cross over IndrharPass(4350m) and back to Lahesh Cave Distance: 12 Kms.
Day 4 Lahesh Cave to Mcleodganj Distance: 14 Kms.

  Trek to Dansar Lake (4050 Metres)   Grade: Difficult
 

Danser Lake is one of the highest lakes in Dhauladhar. It is locaed at an elevation of 4250 Mts. on the foot hill of Ghora Lotnu Peak. This lake like other lakes of Outer Himalaya is held very sacred for the local people. This trek is one of the finest treks that passes through very scenic places and valleys of Chhotabhangal; the tribal region of Himalayas

  Dansar Lake
 
Day 1 Mcleodganj to Lohardi (by bus) Distance: 125 Kms.
Day 2 Lohardi to Jwara (Lahesh Cave) Distance: 10 Kms.
Day 3 Lahesh Cave to Dansar Lake cross over Sari Pass (3700m) Distance: 12 Kms.
Day 4 Dansar Lake to Marardh Distance: 9 Kms.
Day 5 Marardh to Barot Distance: 15 Kms.
Day 6 Barot to MaLeodganj (by bus) Distance: 125 Kms.
* One has the choice to either go to Kullu valley or return back to Mcleodganj from Dansar Lake.
